VIA Mobile360 Forklift Safety System: a pro-active approach to operational safety

Forklifts are one the most dangerous types of industrial equipment. It only takes a split-second of inattentiveness for an accident to happen. Collisions involving pedestrians who inadvertently step in front of or behind a forklift are a particularly serious problem, leading to injuries and even fatalities.

Our aim with the VIA Mobile360 Forklift Safety System is to enable companies to take a pro-active approach to preventing pedestrian collisions by providing a second pair of eyes that alerts the driver whenever someone steps within a hazardous range of their vehicle.

The system’s front and rear wide-angle cameras support a people detection zone covering an area of between 4 and 5 meters depending on the camera installation height. Customers can configure the detection area and accompanying voice or audio alerts with either a single zone (warning) or two zones (warning and critical) using the VIA Mobile360 WorkX smart phone app to meet their specific requirements. The system can also deliver visual alerts together with live video streams from the front and rear cameras direct to its optional 7” in-cabin CVBS display.

To help combat driver fatigue and distraction caused by the repetitive and stressful nature of the job, the system also includes a third in-cabin camera that alerts the driver whenever it detects signs of drowsiness, smart phone usage, and smoking.

We have designed the system to be easy to install onsite without the need for a third-party specialist. The VIA Mobile360 WorkX app makes it easy to calibrate the three cameras, adjust the settings, upgrade the firmware, and view and download videos stored on the system’s Micro SD card. All the key components are IP67-rated to ensure reliable operation in the most demanding environments.
