Quarantine Tales: Day 3

No problems so far sticking to my resolution to only eat food provided by the hotel during quarantine. The meals have been uniformly excellent — fresh, tasty, varied, and in just the right portions. There’s a good chance that I will come out of the hotel feeling healthier than when I entered it. But it’s early days yet, so there’s no point in getting overexcited.

The coffee provided by the hotel is fine as well, though not particularly inspiring. It’s a good job that I stocked up on two bags of Jacob’s Wonderbar from Philz Coffee in San Francisco before returning to Taiwan. That should, I hope, be enough to sustain me for the duration of the quarantine period.

Exercise is just as important as a healthy diet to stay in shape. So far, I have managed to an average of 15,000 steps a day taking the scenic route from one end of my room to the other. This compares to my normal average of 20,000 a day. My biggest loss on the exercise front is not being able to climb any stairs. I this means that I am achieving 0% of my usual average of 100 flights a day.

No need to get worked up about it though. The key, as I keep reminding myself, is to focus on what you can control rather than wasting time and energy worrying about what you can’t.

I’ll have plenty of time to make up for the loss when I can hit the hills and temple of the Four Beasts Scenic Area again after quarantine is over.

I live in Taiwan and am interested in exploring what ancient Chinese philosophy can tell us about technology and the rise of modern China.
