Daodejing Chapter 23: nature rarely talks

Nature rarely talks.
A whirlwind
Does not last all morning.
A rainstorm
Does not last all day.
Why is that?
Heaven and earth.
If heaven and earth
Cannot make them last,
How can man do so?
To practice the Dao,
Is to be at one with the Dao.
To possess inner power
Is to be at one with the power.
To experience failure,
Is to be at one with failure.
When you are at one with the Dao,
The Dao gladly embraces you.
When you are at one with the power,
The power gladly embraces you.
When you are at one with failure,
Failure gladly embraces you.
Lack of trust
Produces lack of trust.

Words are precious. Do not waste them. Rather than erupt in anger, stay still and calm. You will not be able to sustain your fury for very long. Just like a whirlwind or a rainstorm, it will pass soon enough — leaving only suffering and destruction in its wake.

Learn to be patient like heaven and earth. Choose the path you want to follow and commit to it. If this path happens to be the Dao, it will happily embrace you. If you opt for something else, that is fine too. It is up to you to decide the direction you want to go in.

No matter what path you finally take, trust your judgment. If you have no confidence in what you are doing, do not be surprised if others have no confidence in you.

Note
I took this image at Longhu (Dragon Tiger) Mountain, a famous Daoist site about ten miles south of Yingtan in Jiangxi Province. A great place to visit!
